"Consistency Looks Like Nothing Is Happening, Until Everything Changes" - @onepercent on Instagram
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 34th edition of Short & Sweet, a weekly newsletter where I provide brief tips for attorneys to build their brand and book of business, on and off of LinkedIn. Read until the end to see my LinkedIn tip of the week.
Having big goals and dreams for your legal practice is critical to keeping you motivated day-to-day.
But having big goals - like growing a big book of business, becoming the go-to attorney in the industry, or making partner - can become obstacles to growth if you don’t know where to start.
Meeting goals happens step-by-step, day-by-day. Setting your goals and creating manageable steps to meet them consistently is exactly what I work on with IP attorneys.
By taking small, consistent actions, I’ve had clients be promoted, grow their book of business in six months, get recognized at conferences, and be invited to speak and write.
If you're wondering where to start to meet your practice goals, here are some consistent actions you can take:
Provide dependable, high quality legal services
Be responsive to clients and potential clients
Nurture your clients - visit their offices, invite them to events, send them updates, remember their kids’ names
Send thank you notes or gifts to referral partners, invite them to events, refer back to them, ask them to collaborate on a project
Get to know members of your networking organizations deeply
Follow up with those you meet at conferences intermittently throughout the year
Foster relationships with work colleagues - ask how they’re doing, invite them to lunch, have regular calls
Connect with 5 people every day on LinkedIn (clients, potential clients, referral partners, networking contacts, work colleagues, etc.) and substantively comment on three posts
Small efforts like these compound over time to create goodwill in the industry, lead to opportunities that increase your visibility, and provide a consistent funnel of work.
Having trouble checking these items off? I work with my clients to make sure their systems and schedule allow them to consistently build toward their goals.
Warmest Regards and see you next week,
Jamie
LinkedIn Tip of The Week:
Your LinkedIn Headline under your profile photo should tell a story: what you do, who you do it for, where you provide services, and what makes you unique. Your headline follows you whenever you post, comment on a post, request a connection, or send a message. Need help crafting a creative one?
