An Intentional Conference Plan Resultsin Business

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 33rd edition of Short & Sweet, a weekly newsletter where I provide brief tips for attorneys to build their brand and book of business, on and off of LinkedIn. Read until the end to see my LinkedIn tip of the week.

We’ve reached conference season. Are you prepared?

There at least the following intellectual property conferences coming up in the next few months:

  • IPO Annual Meeting, San Diego, California

  • AIPPI World Congress, Yokohama, Japan

  • MARQUES Annual Conference, The Hague, Netherlands

  • INTA TMAP Meeting, Berlin, Germany

  • IIPLA USA 27th Conference, Palo Alto, California

  • PTMG, Budapest, Hungary

  • ChIPs Global Summit Meeting, Washington, DC

  • AIPLA Annual Meeting, Washington, DC

  • INTA Leadership Meeting, Hollywood, Florida

(You can keep updated on IP conferences on https://www.ipeventscalendar.com/, a website created by Aparna Watal)

An attendance plan that grows your book of business long after a conference includes these critical elements:

  • Targeting conferences that are actually worth your time and resources based on your goals and target audience.

  • Creating a strategic list of people to meet with at the conference (or at their office when you’re in the city).

  • Building visibility and warm relationships before the conference to make it easier to schedule meetings and be recognized in the crowd.

  • Intentionally planning a manageable and productive schedule.Strategically handling meetings, hallway interactions, and cocktail parties.

  • Timely following up after the conference.

  • Continuing to build relationships until the same conference the next year.

Results don’t happen simply by showing up without an intentional strategy. Failing to follow up, build relationships during the year, and prepare strategically results in lost opportunities.

I work with IP attorneys to strategically prepare for conferences and create a follow up plan that leads to results.

Even if you’ve been attending conferences for years, preparing with a different perspective could be the catalyst you need for work to start rolling in.

We'll hone in on your target audience and goals so you can efficiently determine who to meet with, which events to attend, and how to create memorable pre-conference and post-conference messaging.

You’ll come away with tools you can take with you to the next conference.

The investment amounts to a few billable hours ($1,595) and will lead to results that will outpace that.

Conference season is starting in a couple weeks. Sign up here to get on my schedule:

LinkedIn Tip of The Week:

Going to a conference? Announce it a month before and then a couple more times ahead of the conference on your LinkedIn personal and law firm pages. It lets other attendees know that you’re going, it’s an excuse to be visible on LinkedIn, and it shows that you’re involved in your industry and up-to-date on the law.

P.S. You can work with me in the following ways:

  • LinkedIn in 8 Coaching and Training  in 60 days

  • Full-Spectrum 1:1 Business Development Coaching and Consulting in 90 Days

  • Law Firm Business Development Strategy

  • Conference Prep

  • Human Design Readings
