The Winning Formula for LinkedIn Posts
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 10th edition of Short & Sweet, a weekly newsletter where I provide brief tips for attorneys to build their brand and book of business, on and off of LinkedIn. Read until the end to see my LinkedIn tip of the week.
Are low performing LinkedIn posts getting you down? From someone who posted for 3+ years as a full time trademark attorney before shifting to coaching, here’s the winning formula. It can equally apply to any practice area:
1. Write about current events, especially those involving a well-known brand or celebrity, in a timely manner.
2. Provide a brief outline of the background, facts, and current status, clearly stated in language your target audience will understand.
3. Give your brief opinion on the case and how it may impact your target audience.
4. Write it in a way that anticipates questions people may have when reading your post.
5. Write it in a way YOU yourself prefer consuming content.
6. Keep it to 1-3 sentence paragraphs.
7. Add image(s) of the marks at issue snagged from court documents, public records, news articles (the photo they're all using), etc.
8. Include an intriguing question for the audience at the end of the post.
9. Don’t forget a call to action (subscribe to my newsletter, register for my event, follow me, call me, send me a message).
10. Pop in a few relevant hashtags like #trademarks or #intellectual property.
Set up Google alerts for “trademarks”, “likelihood of confusion”, or other terms relevant to your industry or local laws to learn about current events. You can also read industry email newsletters from IP Law 360, INTA, WTR, etc.
If someone already wrote about a topic, go for it anyway. You have a different audience, style, and perspective. We want to hear from you too!
Want to dig in deeper and make these posts pop even more for your unique practice and personality? Want to have accountability to get started and be consistent?

LinkedIn Tip of The Week:
There has been discussion that substantively commenting on posts from others in your industry for 10 minutes before your post goes live, helps your post be seen by their audiences. This is not a practice I routinely follow, but I’m going to try it out and see if it helps my metrics. I’ll report back. You can also give it a try in the meantime.
P.S. All of my 1:1 coaching programs include a revamp by me of your LinkedIn profile, including your LinkedIn About section and Headline. I work with you to remove obstacles so that you can focus on successfully building your brand and book:
