Build a Practice with Just a Few Minutes a Day

Hi Friends,

Welcome to the second edition of my dynamic weekly newsletter, Short & Sweet, where I provide brief tips for attorneys to build their brand and book of business, on and off of LinkedIn. If you would prefer to read this email online, you can do so here. Read until the end to see my LinkedIn tip of the week.

Everyone has a few minutes a day - whether it’s waiting in line, while on hold, after the kids go to bed, before the family wakes up, while you’re eating, while you’re taking a break from client work, etc.

You can build a book of business in those gaps. Instead of scrolling aimlessly on your phone, start taking consistent, targeted action.

Here are actions you can take with those valuable minutes:

  1. Send an email to one client or referral partner who you haven’t been in touch with in a while to check in. Bonus points? Schedule a call or coffee to catch up.

  2. Write a handwritten thank you note to a referral source.

  3. Research local networking groups or industry organizations. Take it further and register for their next meeting or conference. Add it to your calendar.

  4. Outline that article you agreed to write or that presentation you agreed to give.

  5. Schedule a meeting or coffee date to catch up with your manager, mentor, mentee, internal referral partner, department head, etc. at your firm.

  6. Scroll the feed on LinkedIn to see what kind of conversations are happening.

  7. Comment substantively on 1 - 3 LinkedIn posts. Then connect with the authors.

  8. Send LinkedIn connection requests to 5 people (clients, potential clients, referral partners, co-workers, former co-workers, law school and college alumni, networking contacts, etc.). You don’t have to send a note with your initial request.

  9. Write a list of ideas for LinkedIn posts.

  10. Daydream about your dreams and your goals. Then write them down.

Consistent action compound to create visibility and business.

Which actions are you going to take this week?

Warmest regards and see you next Thursday,

Jamie
