The Power of Showing Up in the Right Places
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 18th edition of Short & Sweet, a weekly newsletter where I provide brief tips for attorneys to build their brand and book of business, on and off of LinkedIn. Read until the end to see my LinkedIn tip of the week.
Walking into a room full of strangers at a networking event can be nerve-racking - dozens of unfamiliar faces, tight-knit groups deep in conversation, and the pressure to meet everyone and stand out.
That’s exactly how my client felt when she started to build her network for her new IP firm. She knew networking was essential, but she dreaded the idea of actually doing it and didn’t know where to start.
That’s where I came in. She could have stayed home, told herself she’d go “next time,” but we worked together to make sure this was the right place for her to be and I supported her efforts so she could push through and show up.
And she did.
She ran into someone she knew. Not only did he welcome her, but he also introduced her around the room, helping her make genuine connections.
By the end of the meeting, she had met a potential client and scheduled follow-up coffee chats.
This organization felt like the right fit for her and she’s going to go back next week.
Most lawyers know they should get out and network, but between packed schedules, demanding clients, and the natural resistance to putting yourself out there, it’s easier to just keep working.
If you hide in the four walls of your office, your business development will stall. When you need a book of business to succeed as a partner or to make a lateral move, it won’t be there.
As a trademark attorney who’s spent years figuring out what actually works, I help IP attorneys cut through the noise to bring in leads without wasting time. We develop a targeted networking and visibility plan tailored to your practice, schedule, and ideal clients and referral partners.
Networking isn’t just about “being seen.” It’s about showing up in the right places, building relationships with the right people, and making every conversation count.
So let’s get started today. Schedule a free initial strategy session with me.
Warmest Regards and see you next week,
Jamie
